Bookworm Blurbs

I absolutely adore reading - my love for books has had a huge impact on my life! I'm going to grad school to be a children's/YA librarian.

Booklikes Tag - borrowed from Peace Love Books

I saw this on Peace Love Books' page on my dashboard and decided to post it myself! The one minor change I'm making is instead of filling this according to goodreads, as the tag is originally meant to be, I'm applying it to my booklikes account. I hardly use goodreads anymore since their shenanigans last fall (and I simply like booklikes better :P). Anyway, here it is!

1. What was the last book you marked as 'Read'?
Big Fish by Daniel Wallace

2. What are you 'Currently Reading'?

Emma by Jane Austen

3. What was the last book you marked as 'To-Read'?

Death Before Wicket by Kerry Greenwood. It's the 10th book in the Phrynie Fisher mystery series and I added the series to my to-read shelf after watching the pilot of the show on Netflix, which was actually a recommendation to me from a booklikes user (forget who though - sorry!). I have yet to actually start the book series, but I love what little I've seen of the tv show and definitely plan to continue watching after the wedding :)

4. What book do you plan to read next?

I need to re-read Anna Karenina - I'm hosting it for my book club next month. I also need to re-read Treasure Island, and I'll probably start that this week, if I have time. It was the pick for the Classics discussion group last month and I missed it because I was so busy!

5. Do you use the star rating system?

I do, but I also make every effort to write an actual review for every book that I read. I don't feel that the stars fully reflect my reading experience, though they're great for simply giving readers a quick insight to my thoughts.

6. Are you doing a 2014 reading challenge?

Yep! I want to read 100 books this year and I'm currently at 52, so I'm a little ahead of schedule. I don't think that my goal will be difficult to reach since I'm starting grad school for library science in the fall and I'm going to be doing TONS of reading for that!

7. Do you have a wishlist?

No, actually, I don't! I should probably start one, but I'm afraid that if I did, it would basically be a copy of my to-read shelf and if I were to have one, I'd ideally want it to be a bit more picky than my to-read list.

8. What book do you want to buy next?

Ha, honestly? Probably a text book for my classes in the fall. My book budget these days is extremely slim, sadly.

9. Do you have any favorite quotes? Would you like to share a few?

I have a few, but I'm HORRIBLE at remembering quotes. Here are some that I used for my Top 5 Wednesday quotes post:

"After all, tomorrow is another day!" from Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
"We're all human, aren't we? Every human life is the same, and worth saving." - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.” Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.” Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
“And so, with laughter and love, we lived happily ever after.” Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

10. Who are your favorite authors?

Philippa Gregory, J.K. Rowling, Sara Dessen, Margaret Mitchell... those are the ones who immediately come to mind.

11. Have you joined any groups?

Yep - the one that I'm most active in is the Classics discussion group

12. Are there any questions you'd like to add to this tag?

I tag:

Anyone who has not filled this out yet and would like to! :)
