I absolutely adore reading - my love for books has had a huge impact on my life! I'm going to grad school to be a children's/YA librarian.
I went back to visit my college for the first time as an alum this weekend. It was great to see my friends! Of course, I didn't get any reading done because I was too busy catching up with everyone. I'm hoping to read tonight once I get off of work - most likely Z since I'm behind the schedule with reading that for book club.
Also, I picked up a book at the library today while at work called American Born Chinese. It's a graphic novel and it'll be my first experience with that genre. To be completely honest, graphic novels sort of intimidate me since I've never read them and it's hard for me to think of them as more than just comic books that little kids read. However, I do recognize that it's a very successful genre and graphic novels are actually the most heavily circulated items at my library, which shows how much patrons are reading them. I'm trying to get more familiar with them so I can be more helpful to the patrons who come to my library. That being said, do any of you have recommendations of graphic novels that are good introductions to the genre? I've heard that I should read Maus and I actually just put it on hold so I should be getting that in about a week. If any of you have read either American Born Chinese or Maus, I'd love to hear what you thought of them!
