I absolutely adore reading - my love for books has had a huge impact on my life! I'm going to grad school to be a children's/YA librarian.

Reading progress update: I've read 24%.

Netherworld - Lisa Morton

I really like this book so far! It's about a woman in Victorian England whose husband has died. Her husband's family has long held the position of gatekeepers - people who are guardians of the gateways between the Netherworld and this one. Upon her husband's death, Diana takes over his duties and she goes around sealing these gateways so demonic entities can't escape from the Netherworld. But she wonders her husband's death and when she learns that there was more to it than meets the eye, she goes on an adventure to learn more and fight the entities that killed him.

So far, I love this book. It moves very quickly and doesn't dwell on subjects that don't really need too much attention, which I think is something that a lot of authors struggle with. I also think that Diana is a great protagonist, though I would like to learn more about her personality rather than simply about her background. At 25%, I think I should be learning more pretty soon.

I've read several reviews and there have been very mixed reactions to this book. While some readers seem to have had the same experience that I'm having, others have complained about poor quality of writing and a lack of accuracy. I think it's too early for me to judge on those fronts, but thus far, I'm inclined to disagree with the negative reviewers. However, I still have a long way to go before I'm finished with the book, so I'm keeping an open mind!
