Bookworm Blurbs

This is another book that I never would have picked up if it weren't for my book club! And, once again, I am SO glad that I did! It's about a teenager who suffers from depression and is admitted into a psychiatric hospital. Normally, I wouldn't like that, because normally, it would be a really depressing book. But this was actually, as the title suggests, kind of funny. It's written in a way that is kind of uplifting. The characters were all really interesting, which I always like. And what was most interesting to me was that the author wrote it right after he spent time in a similar psychiatric hospital, so that adds a lot of credibility to the story. I'm lucky enough to have never suffered from depression, but this book really opened my eyes to what a person with depression feels like and what they go through. Most people don't realize how stressful every day life is to a person with depression - I know I didn't - and this book does a really good job of exposing it. After reading it, I feel like I understand all of that a lot better. So this was a great book because not only did it have an interesting story line and really great characters, it also taught me about something that I think is really important for people to be aware of. I definitely recommend reading this book, especially if you or someone you know suffers from a mental illness.
