I absolutely adore reading - my love for books has had a huge impact on my life! I'm going to grad school to be a children's/YA librarian.
This book was okay. I read it for my book club and I don't know that I personally would read it again, simply because it's not a genre that I'm particularly interested in. Puzo's writing style is good enough to pull you into the story, but it's not really refined or grasping. The story line is not very sophisticated. It is definitely a violent, graphic book, which, if you've seen the movie, is to be expected. What I found to be most interesting was the insight into Sicilian culture, though I'm not sure if it's an accurate portrayal of true Sicilian culture, or just the mafia mentality. I gave the book a higher rating than I would probably have given it based on my own reaction simply because if gangster/action novels are what you're looking for, you'd LOVE this book. If you're like me and you like something with a little more depth, this probably isn't for you. I would recommend this book to pretty much any guy who's looking for a decent book to read (along with Fight Club), especially if it's someone who doesn't usually read, simply because the book is fast-paced enough and interesting enough to keep you interested. I probably wouldn't recommend it to a girl (myself included), simply because this most girls I know (myself included) would probably pass this over in favor of a book with a little less violence and a little more romance, haha.
